How to write an article optimized for SEO positioning.
Knowing the rules by which search engines such as Google (SEO positioning) are governed to place our businesses or websites in the first places, is a point in our favor to make our products and services known against the competition. The optimized writing of our blog posts or articles is one of the most used techniques to improve SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
SEO articles are made to reach a certain number of minimum words, take into account a specific order of titles and order in the text (headings or meta tags “h”), keyword content, … All this is necessary so that when search engine bots visit our site, they can find and rank our website better, and give it greater relevance, in this way they will benefit from having greater exposure in the search results, thus obtaining a greater number of visits, better reputation and relevance.
In this article, we’ll give you the guidelines so that you can write an SEO-optimized article.
What should SEO articles have?
1. Quality content
More and more search engines give more importance to the quality of content, that is, valuable content that interests your visitors, so I advise you that if you have not already done so, you add content marketing to your sales strategy and SEO positioning on your website.
The best way for Google to know if your content is of quality is to disseminate it on the Internet and for this dissemination to obtain a high response from your audience: links, mentions…….
It is clear that on the internet there is a lot of junk content, which starts with a good title and in the end does not contribute anything new, so make an effort to publish articles that answer questions, that talk about various topics related to your main topic and add images, videos and infographics with this you will enrich the information and generate visual impacts that we are sure will help that reader return to read your information when they publish another article.
How does Google measure the quality of our articles?
It is not known for sure, but it is logical that it measures it through a series of parameters such as:
- External links pointing to your website (backlinks) on Social Networks or other websites (the more relevant these are, the better),
- internal links between the same pages of your website,
- Number of visits, average time the visit lasts, (Google Analytics)
- Orthography of your publication,
- Use of synonyms,
- Number of words in the publication,
- Images with “Alt” tags that can be read by robots
- Page navigability and usability (loading time, sitemaps, absence of 404 errors, …)
2. Extensive publications
In the past, articles of between 400 and 700 words were written, but now volume is more important, so we recommend that most of your articles are at least 800 words. Google interprets that a highly read and shared content of more words is more valuable for web positioning than another with the same traffic of visits but with fewer characters; This way, if you write long, quality posts, you’ll have a better chance of ranking faster.
3.- Write good titles and subheadings
Titles and subheadings should always draw attention. Otherwise, you should write titles that answer the questions that people ask themselves in search engines, we all know that there is a high percentage of people who type the question directly into Google and do not search by keyword, so take advantage of that knowledge and start writing articles that answer those questions.
You should know that the main title must have a maximum of 67 to 70 characters (Post Title) and that you must give it a meta tag called h1 indicating that it is the main title of the page.
Remember that you should NOT have more than one h1 meta tag in your articles.
4. Use keywords in your publications
The big difference between an article designed for SEO positioning and one that is not is the use of keywords. You must think about what keyword (keywords) you are going to use to position it. Eye! You should use keywords thinking about your readers and not search engines, so that when you use them, they appear naturally and not shoehorned into every corner of your article.
5. SEO structure of your posts
Write with quality and order, you may have good information but if it is disorganized you will lose much of the work. The first two points are essentially related to what you write, but at this point we will explain how you should capture that information on the web so that it captures the attention of Google’s robots.
When you write an article, you must designate the SEO structure of the page using meta tags (programming codes) to make it easier for search engine bots to know what you consider most important, and what information you want to give: Titles and subtitles, description, images with “alt” attribute, friendly URLs, …. If you want to know more, I recommend you read the section: Pages with SEO Structure. Meta tags
Respect the order of the meta tags, the title must have an “h1” tag and is the only one that must exist in the entire article, the subheadings must be “h2” and the subheadings within the subheadings must have an “h3” and so on until “h6”.
The order of the labels should always be from most to least relevant.
You should not use keywords that are too close in the same paragraph, use synonyms.
Use bold words to highlight our keyword, but we don’t recommend putting two in the same paragraph and also take care that there aren’t too many in a single article. If you write an article of 900 words the maximum would be 5 keywords in that text, remember that Google also penalizes when SEO is abused.
6.- Author Rank
This implies that you must link the content you publish to your Google+ profile (the author’s name must match the name of the Google+ profile) in this way you will have the following in your favor: If Google considers that your information is important your author Rank will go up as time goes by; there will come a time when Google will give your articles a better SEO positioning, Because your reputation is higher, since you have shown them that your content is important and provides value, as well as user response.
7.- Anchor text
Although it is a Link Building strategy, it is necessary to mention it because your article must have several outbound links to other articles on your website, as well as we recommend that they must have links that go to the Home (main page) or to your landing page of services and products; since this way you make sure that Google’s robots will index all your content. When carrying out this strategy you must work with natural anchor texts, they should not be repetitive since the ideal is that those links go to complementary information of the article and also those descriptions should be short not a maximum of 5 words.
What Should You Not Do When Writing SEO Articles?
Copy content
Its name says it all, Google hates duplicate content, and we are sure that you will be penalized so do not try to overdo it, do not do it and you will save yourself headaches.
You already have a good article, now you need them to share it and respond to it, that will give you more credibility. Google’s robots will interpret that if it was shared it provided answers so that way it will place it in the first places, our advice is that you never forget to share it on the networks.
Over-optimization of web pages
As we have already said before, you must optimize your articles using “h” meta tags that indicate to search engine bots the hierarchy of your article; as well as to use keywords for which you want to position the article; But you should never abuse the use of keywords by filling and forcing the article with them to appear more times.
You should write your articles for your readers not for robots, but it is much better to know their rules to use them without abusing them.
Not mentioning the source
We know that there are times when a quote must be written accurately and it will not necessarily be seen as duplicate content, but not mentioning the source will leave you in a bad light in the eyes of readers. So never fail to mention it. That will give your readers more confidence.
Be a spammer
When you write content, in addition to optimizing it for SEO, you must disseminate it, but you must do it without being a spammer. Spread the word in communities and groups on your social networks, but at the same time interact with them and participate in their publications and conversations.
